I just found a program that rivals Acrobat's PDF Reader. I can select text and copy it, regardless of the 'document rights' that Acrobat requires, and it has tabs like Firefox. Here's the link:

I believe kPDF, the built in pdf viewer in linux is the same. But you have to be running linux for that.
